Winifred Sharp a counter assistant at Bridge end post office was shot and killed by an armed robber on 9/6/1966. A lone gunman entered the premises and fired 3 shots killing Winifred and badly wounding the postmaster. He escaped with £160 in cash and was never identified.
The murderer was described by witnesses as being of medium height with a thin face and black hair and wearing dark sunglasses.
